2026 NYC School Survey
Dear families,
For the past 20 years, we’ve asked NYC Public School families like you to share their thoughts about their experiences in our schools with us each spring. It’s time to make your voice heard once again! The 2026 NYC School Survey is open now through Wednesday, April 1!
Available in 13 languages to families with children currently attending City early childhood education programs or public schools in grades 3-K–12, the survey helps us better understand what’s working, how to improve, and how to plan for next school year and beyond.
Your answers are confidential, and it only takes a few minutes to share valuable input that could help make your child’s school an even better place to learn!
You will receive a printed copy of the 2026 NYC School Survey with instructions on how to complete it on paper or online.
You can fill out the survey today at NYCSchoolSurvey.org:
- If your child is in grades K–12, you will need your child's nine-digit student ID number (OSIS) to start the survey. You can find your child's OSIS on their report card or on their school ID card. When you log in on the survey website, enter a lowercase “f” followed by your child’s OSIS to begin.
- If your child is enrolled in an early childhood program, please contact them to receive your Survey access code.
You can also log in to your official New York City Schools Account (NYCSA) to access the survey. Learn more about how to sign up for NYCSA if you do not already have one.
Don’t forget: the deadline to complete your survey is April 1!

A message from Chancellor Aviles-Ramos with a short video explaining the New York State cell phone and device policy
As a follow-up to the message from September 2 regarding the implementation of the New York State cell phone and device policy, please see here for the promised video. This short video explains the policy rationale, requirements, and disciplinary responses. Please share it with families, staff, and students to ensure consistent messaging across our school system.Thank you for your continued leadership and communication as we work together to build distraction-free classrooms and communities.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dear Principals,As we enter the new school year and implement the New York state law prohibiting personal internet-enabled devices, we recognize and acknowledge that this transition will bring both opportunities and adjustments for our schools. As education leaders in our city, we know students are attached to their cell phones and other devices. We also know that phones need to be stored away in accordance with the law in order to create space for deeper learning and community connection. We ask that you take a proactive, supportive posture with your entire community—students, staff, and families—as they all navigate the new state law. We will provide a short video that will explain the rationale, requirements, and disciplinary responses to ensure a consistent message across our school system. Please meet with your parents, teachers, and students to show the video and discuss your school’s implementation plan. As school leaders, it will be essential for you to keep the lines of communication open with all stakeholders; we know this is a shift for many of our students and families, which will require thoughtful, ongoing communication. We also encourage you to provide social-emotional support to help students adjust to this change in their daily routines. As necessary, consult Chancellor’s Regulation A-413 and the Discipline Code, as well as this comprehensive document on progressive discipline.Additional resources related to the device policy can be found on the NYCPS website at schools.nyc.gov/DevicePolicy and on the InfoHub. You should also reference and utilize the resources and toolkit shared via Principals Digest (on July 29 and August 26); please backpack home the family flyer (found in the digital assets and resources section of the toolkit) in the first week of school, along with information about your school-specific policy (a template for this is also available in the toolkit).Thank you for your leadership and collaboration in building distraction-free classrooms and communities.Brooklyn Collegiate - A College Board School
